The Big Google PR Update: A look behind the scenes
Finally the big google pr update happened and took most of the webmasters by surprise. Some saw an increase in their pr while others saw a decrease. One thing is clear and that is the theory of page rate and that goosle is going to launch googlicious - something similar to delicious - has come to an end (at least for now) Lets take a look inside of who were the gainers and losers.
While most of the directories saw a decrease in their pr for selling links some were able to make a difference like bqtm which went from pr4 to pr5 Another example can be of dirjournal which went to pr7 So it seems that google is not against directories but against paid links. So it seems that the directory business is still profitable if undertaken properly. Coming back to the topic the update is not over yet and the google dance is still going. A few minutes ago my blog showed me pr2 and now its showing pr1 (duh) I guess at last someone saw my advert (125*125) for sale in the sidebar!!! I think thats why I got slapped by google.
John cow (not john chow) of the john cow dot com went to pr4 from pr0 inspite of selling links in the sidebar and eventually got rewarded for it. So its seems that selling links is not bad but selling them in the open is real bad.
So what must one do? Avoid putting banners and buttons with “FOR SALE” kind of appeal (a lesson learned the hard way) If you can then avoid using google analytics then do so cause by using that you are kind of asking them to take better care of you!! I am still working on some other methods which can help us survive this threat better and will soon post it here.
I would like you to share your experiences on what you did with your blog and how it affected your blog’s rating. After collecting all the info I will post it here to make sure we remain in the race of the survival of the fittest!!
