Difference Between People and Traffic
I am a regular reader of Darren run problogger.net and a couple of days ago I read a post about a tortoise’s guide to blogging. Here is a small summary of the points to be kept in mind. It beautifully describes the difference between people and traffic and why we should focus more on people.
Checking Stats:
I agree to this that webmasters give very little importance to their stats and seldom check their traffic, sources and turn of events. Stats can tell you a lot about your shortcomings and how you can overcome it, which posts are getting more page views and attention.
When you know which of your posts are getting more page views you can write more about that particular topic and gain more traffic. Many webmasters are having trouble thinking of coming with new topics to write about, so this can help you that too.
New Friends - Go Slow
when you meet new bloggers and webmasters dont just think about yourself and also think about the other. Dont start with help me with this and that and then ignore them but help them with their issues and cultivating long term relationship.
Cant Survive Alone
No blog can survive alone and every success story has many visitors and people’s contribution as they comments, linking back, reviews and last but not the least word of mouth. So you on your part should be humble and never forget to thank bloggers and webmasters and everyone who has contributed to your blog in some way. This also boost their moral and encourage them to help further.
Patience and Long Term Thinking
I am sad to say this as I observe more and more abandoned blogs. Bloggers work on their blogs for a couple of months and when they fail to see any results they simply desert them. It takes months and even years to build loyal readers and learn the ropes. Also a lot of bloggers feel offended when their readers argue with them or pass a negative comment. Frankly speaking I feel happy when I get a negative comment because it helps me improve and learn my mistakes. Remember - Failures are stepping stones to success. Every day you learn something new and with every new curve you add value to your blog making your readers time worth every second they spend time on your blog.
